Michael Graham

Partner

Michael is the founding Partner of global billing and has practised as a legal costs consultant since 1996, after working in law firms practising in the areas of family law, commercial litigation, estate law, and general practice.

His practice covers all aspects of legal costing services, and he has provided expert evidence in the Queensland State and Federal Courts involving security for costs applications and costs disputes on more than 90 separate occasions, as well as being appointed as a Special (Costs) Referee in Federal Court proceedings.

Michael works closely with law firms to ensure they provide accurate and transparent billing to their clients.

He has a special interest in alternative dispute resolution for legal costs related disputes and works with clients to assist with resolving disputes through processes involving negotiation, mediation and arbitration rather than the Court Assessment/Taxation process.

Michael holds Bachelor of Laws and Master of Laws (including the Law of Costs subject) Degrees from QUT.

He published a series of Articles on legal costs in Proctor (QLS Publication) and regularly presents seminars and workshops for law firms on topics involving legal costs regulations, compliance and best practices.

Luke Short

Partner

Luke’s practise involves all areas of legal costing and costs law, across all Australian Courts and jurisdictions. His day to day work includes:

· Notice of Objections
· Valuation of firms for acquisition and funding purposes

Before focussing on legal costing and costs law, Luke held Partner and General Manager roles in law firms where he practised in and managed teams across commercial litigation, personal injury, family law, estates, and criminal law. Luke has a keen interest in helping his client’s successfully implement their legal pricing models, practice management systems, and workflows. Luke’s qualifications include:

Taryn Goss

Senior Associate

Taryn is a Solicitor and a Legal Costs Consultant with over 10 years of broad experience in the legal costing industry.  

Taryn has advised clients in relation to legal cost recovery over a range of high profile legal and complex cases in Queensland, New South Wales, ACT, Victoria, Tasmania, Western Australia and the Commonwealth jurisdictions, and has particular experience in preparing large complex Costs Statements.  

Taryn has also previously lectured in relation to legal costing matters at Bond University.

Taryn prides herself on her diligent and contentious work ethic and drive to deliver good outcomes for her clients.

Taryn has held a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Southern Cross University and was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland and the High Court of Australia in July 2015.

Chantal Paterson

Senior Managing Clerk

Chantal commenced work with global billing in 2019 as a Senior Managing Clerk. Her work involves the preparation of Costs Statements, Itemised Bills of Costs/Accounts, and Itemised Costs Accounts, as well as assisting the Partners with the preparation of Narrative Certificates of Assessment.

Chantal has over 14 years’ experience in the legal industry, previously working in both Defendant and Plaintiff firms in Personal Injury Law. Chantal also has some experience working in the medical industry, working as a Executive Assistant to an Orthopaedic Surgeon.

Chantal ensures she delivers the highest possible level of service to clients with her exceptional commitment to detail and precision, and her dedicated work ethic.
